– VENTISEISIMA PUNTATA –

Ritorna dopo  due mesi lo SPECIALE “LE DONNE NEL FUMETTO” . Mi spiace che più volte ho dovuto sospendere la pubblicazione dei vari interventi scritti e disegnati che lo compongono ma i tanti, ed incalzanti, impegni di aprile-maggio mi hanno lasciato davvero poco tempo libero.
Oggi propongo due grandi artisti internazionali Mary&Bryan Talbot  con alcune pagine della loro ultima opera (che risale al 2016) ancora inedita, come tante altre, in Italia.

Proclamation of the Commune outside the Hotel de Ville. In the centre of the façade of the building a platform has been erected over which presides a red-draped statue of the Republic. On the platform are the newly elected Commune leaders, all with red sashes. Louise is in the ecstatic throng. Many of the Guardsmen are waving their kepis aloft on their bayonets, others are bearing flags. Louise is wearing a red scarf for first time. She’ll continue to wear it until the end of the Commune.

TEXTBOX: The defensive forts around Paris were occupied once more. The bombardment started again, only this time it wasn’t Prussian artillery. It was French.

Panels of bombardment turmoil. A battalion of Guardsmen on the move, with blankets and pans on their knapsacks and loaves of bread aloft on their bayonets. Clouds of dust and smoke, cherry trees in blossom amidst ruins.

Louise watches a branch shed its blossom like pink snow as a shell hits it.

Louise was always a remarkable, passionate person. As a young woman, she started sending poetry to Victor Hugo. She corresponded with him for thirty years or so, until his death.

I think I remember them together, just before the siege started. I used to think she was in love with him. But I was just a girl then – what did I know?
