Lucio Dalla, Doctor Who, James Bond and… Paolo Borsellino!
The fantastic four projects by Fumettomania!

The organizational machine of Fumettomania Factory APS, Italian Cultural Association, is already active to prepare national level events dedicated to unmissable anniversaries.
On March 4, 2023, the 80th anniversary of the birth of Lucio Dalla was celebrated, and an exhibition will be organized for the occasion, hosted in Messina in 2024, in collaboration with ‘Officina del Sole’. Some of the artists and journalists with whom the Association is in contact are partecipating in the project, with illustrations (such as the attached one by the artist Lelio Bonaccorso), comics and in depth articles on the songs and the artist.
November 23rd will celebrate the anniversary of a central figure in British pop culture: Doctor Who, to whom the famous television series is dedicated.
A famous character in the SF scene, he will reach the remarkable threshold of 60 years, underlining the appreciation and affection of fans from all over the world. On the occasion of the anniversary, Fumettomania launched the “WE CELEBRATE 60 YEARS OF DOCTOR WHO” project in May, which will consist of drawn gifts (attached that of the italian artist Elena Casagrande) and articles, which will be published on the Association’s website from November 2023.
In 2024 Fumettomania will set up an exhibition in the Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto district with the original and digital works received.
The iconic figures of British origin, who have found notoriety in Italy and in the world are not exhausted: James Bond, Ian Fleming’s literary “creature”, turns 70.
For this anniversary, Fumettomania launches the project “Licence to kill – 70 years of James Bond“, which will consist of drawn gifts (such as the attached one by the well-known artist David Lloyd), and articles on the Association’s website from September 2023, with the authorization of Ian Fleming Publications.
In this case too, Fumettomania will undertake to set up an exhibition with original and digital works in 2024, in conjunction with the exhibition-event dedicated to Doctor Who.
Cultural commitments for the area will not end with these activities open to all citizens, but specific actions will be carried out for schools, with projects to raise awareness of reading and understanding the language of comics and Art.
After the success of the presentation in some Barcellona schools of the Italian graphic novel “Vento di libertà” (Tunuè Edizioni), by author from Messina Lelio Bonaccorso, among the next proposals there will be the italian graphic novel “Paolo Borsellino, una storia da raccontare” (Renoir Edizioni), by Marco Sonseri and Gianluca Doretto.
“Last season was full of cultural proposals and commitments for the citizens of Barcellona, and summer is the time to rethink the new paths to take and the new offers to put in place to feed the cultural context of our areas“, so explains Mario Benenati, President of Fumettomania, to then conclude that “raising awareness among school groups, but also among the younger section of society in general, is a deeply felt mission of the association: starting afresh from young people and educating them in Beauty is the key to giving new life to the understanding and enhancement of Art in the province of Messina, which can translate into a renewed commitment of the new generations to preserve the excellence and heritage of the area“.
Appointment therefore in the coming months with the series of activities proposed by Fumettomania, which once again stands out for its passion in the field of comic art and in the diffusion of its enjoyable and high quality contents.

The Cultural Association Fumettomania Factory – APS, which has been operating nationwide since 1991, without ever forgetting the activities carried out in the territory of its operational headquarters, in Barcellona P.G. – has as its purpose the promotion and enhancement of issues related to the language of comics. The “mission” of Fumettomania is to attract children of all ages by promoting projects which talk about current and engaging topics. We have chosen to use comics, which contains in itself the code of literature (words) and traditional visual art (images), but also the mechanics of cinema (which is why it is also referred to as sequential art).
The commitment of the Association – 32 years after its foundation – is to spread the culture of Comics: we want to promote cultural and social projects with workshops aimed at young enthusiasts and schools, exhibitions and presentations dedicated to comics, illustration and similar, without forgetting meetings with authors!

SPECIFIC INFORMATION TO PARTECIPATE IN THE FIRST THREE PROJECTS

The project is open to designers, illustrators, writers, journalists, and cultural associations and will mainly consist of an exhibition, which we will carry out in 2024 in Messina in collaboration with OFFICINA DEL SOLE, and to follow in other cities and with many articles published on our webmagazine.
Each artist can send the original on paper of a single illustration, or a short comic of a maximum length of four pages, on his songs and on the author.
All techniques are accepted: pencils, ink, watercolor, oil, acrylic, digital.
The format of the work can be A4 or A3, no larger.
Each writer (or journalist): will be able to send a text, i.e. an article, a short essay, on one or more songs by Dalla and on the author, of at least 600 words (3600 characters, including spaces).
The works (drawn and written) can be delivered from 30 June until 30 December 2023.

31 January 2024 – Third and last date
This Special of Fumettomania will end on March 30, 2024.
All the works, as they are delivered, will be published on this site.
If the adhesions will be numerous, as we hope, we will study the possibility of exhibiting the original works in an exhibition in our city that we will hold in 2024.
Rules valid for all three projects
Each participating artist will be able to send the original work on paper, for the collective exhibition.
Comics authors and illustrators who work only digitally can also participate. In the latter case they must send the work printed on paper and it must be signed.
In addition to the work (on paper or digital) each artist is invited to communicate the following information by email to info@fumettomaniafactory.net:
a) the illustration or comic story file in JPG format at 600 dpi
b) indication of the format of the work
c) the title of the work and any caption or short text related to the work
d) the means or technique used in the work.
e) any copyright notices
which will be used for the promotion of the project itself and for the collective exhibition.
Each work must be accompanied by the author’s biography and a recent photo of him, in order to give maximum visibility to each of you.
